Letter to the editor

Colonialisation continued

Thank you Peter Küpfer for the continual reports over many years on Ruanda, Kongo and the bordering regions. Empathy and outrage are expressed in every sentence for the abused population about the western powers’ continued colonialisation for decades. It is almost unbearable to read the lines however, I am very grateful for these reports. Hardly anywhere else does one find out about these terrible events and their background. With the result that the raw materials that are important for the digital industry and its consumers can continue to be plundered “in peace and quiet”, so to speak. This at the cost of millions of dead and displaced people. The only way I could make sense of the “refugee deal” negotiated by the UK with Rwanda last year (and now stopped by the new prime minister) was that in return, the Rwandan regime’s intrigues would continue to be covered and the business with the looted metals and earths would continue at an “advantageous” price.
