Reader’s Letter
Perpetual armed neutrality is the resolute position of refusing to participate in any wars and defending our country against military invasions. It does not threaten and is a true model for peace. It is incompatible with weapon deliveries, bombs and sanctions, which rather bring death and destruction than peace. It is incompatible with military exercises for future missions under NATO commands!
Only as an authentic, neutral state can Switzerland advocate for peace, offer its honourable services and mediate without serving hidden interests of power. Additionally, neutrality is the foundation and backbone for the invaluable humanitarian aid provided by the International Red Cross, a source of hope to millions of people all over the world!
Maintaining arms serves exclusively to protect our free self-determined direct democracy. Neutrality guarantees the freedom of expression – nonviolent discussions without which our direct democracy would not be possible. It is the respect for the fact that people will never all be of the same opinion but have the will to live together peacefully. When the state is no longer neutral, censorship and dictatorship are around the corner. Our forefathers stood together against bombs and threats! Let us not give up! Say ‘yes’ to perpetual armed neutrality.
