Neutrality is needed now more than ever

Reader’s letter

As it already has become apparent, the world powers and their leaders are continuing to take the path of dividing and destabilising for their own profit. We should not allow ourselves to be drawn into this, neither through the non-UN sanctions which have caused more human deaths in the last 70 years than the wars, nor through ties to NATO or the European Union. We have a sacred duty, to promote peace and to prevent war. We still have (greatly reduced through politics) the possibility to achieve this. As a member of a world power, we would lose this opportunity and become party to conflict and an accomplice or victim. Humanitarian help is, in such power alliances, no longer possible. Neutrality and non-interference in other countries do not mean ignoring, rather looking closely and reaching out in the diplomatic restoration of peace and the preservation of humanitarian help.
